9 Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient – Part 1
Harvey M Sachs, PhD, and Chief of the Buildings Program at the American Council for an economy efficient energy came in the following 9 methods that a homeowner can use to become more efficient.
1. Check your walls and attic are well insulated. When you install the insulation properly, it can dramaticallyslow the rate that heat leaves the house. If your walls are already insulated, it is generally not a problem. But in homes where the walls are well insulated and have cavities where hot air can escape, it would be wise to seek isolation inflated to fill the empty spaces.
2nd Upgrade or replace windows. Often in older homes, Windows may have a tendency to “leak”. When you start thinking about replacing them, it is better to watch windows with Energy Star Rating. But do not go out and buy the window just trying to become more energy efficient. Because Windows accounts for less than five percent of heat loss, it would be wiser to focus on other areas to become more efficient.
3rd Shadow Plant trees and shrubs around the house. One way to fight against the appearance of poorly insulated walls and windows is to plant vegetation. The benefits of trees and shrubs are twofold. Not only do they block the sun in summer with foliage allows the same beam through the winter because of the bare branches on plants.
4th Replacing an old furnace with a high efficiency. Furnaces built before 1992 May be a waste of an incredible thirty-five per cent of fuel used. It is updated on furnaces on the market that will waste ten percent or less of fuel used. The AFUE (AFUE) can be determined using a heating technician or energy auditor.
5th Streamline your hot water system. The first step is to enable the setting of water heaters to heat, which is 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, insulating hot water pipes, reducing their ability to cool between uses. The use of low-flow fixtures to increase efficiency when used for showering and bathing. Rather than replacing a water heater in perfect condition, try the steps above.
Steps 6 to 9 will be discussed in the following. . . so stay tuned!
