Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) was conceived of by the French engineer Jacques D’Arsonval in 1881. However, at the time of this writing the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii is home to the only operating experimental OTEC plant on the face of the earth. OTEC is a potential alternative energy source that needs to be funded and explored much more than it presently is.
The great hurdle to get over with OTEC implementation on a wide and practically useful level is cost. It is difficult to get the costs down to a reasonable level because of the processes presently utilized to drive OTEC. Ocean thermal energy would be very clean burning and not add pollutants into the air. However, as it… Read More

The energy crunch is a real worldwide crisis as fossil fuel supplies decrease and populations increase. Utility costs are going up in pace with the increasing demand for electricity. It’s no wonder that the alternative energy arena is a quickly growing market with millions of dollars invested every year. And of these great clean renewable energy sources, solar wind power show the most promise.

What is really exciting is the realization of the incredibly high level of abundance of energy that is radiated by the sun. The amount is actually quite unfathomable. Studies have shown that the amount of energy received from the earth by the sun in just one hour is enough to satisfy the entire world’s electricity demand for an entire year! It really puts in perspective… Read More

The OTEC association, standing for the conversion of ocean thermal energy, was founded by French engineer called Jacques D’Arsonval back in 1881. The only remaining plant that is still a member of the OTEC is based in Hawaii and represented a natural energy laboratory. OTEC represents a source that can produce alternative energy which is currently, however, underrated and unexploited. The thing that stands in the way of the popularization of the OTEC is that it costs too much at this point for many to afford it. It is thus difficult, to keep costs down to some level because processes affected the OTEC, rendering inefficient. Thermal energy derived from the ocean needs to be cleansed and treated of any remains and then it can be utilized in the air. It… Read More
