Why is the government promoting wind energy?
Given the current era we live in, it is important that the world believes that various natural resources we have and how best to use them. In addition, it is now imperative to address the many sources of clean energy that will reduce the harmful effects of global warming and offer a variety of economic and social benefits.
Such a positive resource is wind, and therefore the conversion of wind energy into electricity. In fact, the benefits of wind energy is so enormous that even the government began to promote it. Some benefits of wind energy are:
The use of wind energy can reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), and improves security and stability through diversification of the portfolio of the nation’s electricity. For these reasons, since July 2009, 29 states and the District of Columbia have adopted mandatory standards for renewable portfolio (RPS). The RPS requires electric utilities to generate a minimum percentage of their electricity from clean and renewable resources. There are also substantial subsidies and incentives at the state and federal level for some wind turbines.
In addition to environmental benefits, there are many social and economic benefits of promoting wind energy. One of these is to promote wind energy helps to rejuvenate the rural economy and create jobs at ground level, such as installers, surveyors, lawyers, bankers, engineers, just to name a few – each. This also benefits local communities, mainly in the form of property tax revenues and new types of income to landowners through lease payments. Thus, the government appears to promote wind energy in every possible way.
